Something I noticed, since 1 mi ≈ 1600 m, that means:
½ mi ≈ 800 m
¼ mi ≈ 400 m
⅛ mi ≈ 200 m
¹⁄₁₆ mi ≈ 100 m
All within 0.6% error
This is actually useful since a lot of cities are built by dividing square mile grids
