The interpretation of 'staff' is significant. #Volunteers are captured under S49(6)(b) of the SA Health Care Act 2008, which says that staff will be constituted by employees & (b) volunteers who are appointed to perform functions connected with SAAS operations or activities.

The Bill contains no mention of #paramedic or #paramedicine. The amendment defines two additional offences in relation to SAAS & says "...a member of the staff of SAAS". Based on that wording, the offence may apply to any employee, whether a nurse, doctor, paramedic or other role

The media coverage shows the embedded perceptions of the role of #paramedics & highlights the importance of distinguishing between #registered paramedics & an employer. The National Law already provides a "holding out" provision that applies to all paramedics in any setting.

HCPC data from the UK gives an indication of first time registrants as well - supplementing data for #growth. Australasian published data could be improved by simple additional measures such as #pathways to practice, ethnic breakdown & first time #registrants.
