This #WildlifeWednesday lets meet one of Paraguay's more rarely encountered creatures, the Marsh Deer. The largest of the Paraguayan deer, it habits wetland areas and flooded grasslands. It can be recognised by its darkened snout and huge ears. Males possess impressive antlers.

Our Executive Director Dr Becca Smith has been awarded a 2nd grant from The Rufford Foundation to expand the reforestation project to a second Mbya Guaraní community; support the education with 12 indigenous schools and help us continue monitoring the fauna of the remaining Atlantic Forest!

Staff intro! Since we are new to Bluesky we'd like to introduce our staff! Jorge Ayala grew up in rural Paraguay & joined Para La Tierra in 2010 as a forest guard. In 2013, he started working with our environmental education programme and co-founded Voces de la Naturaleza in 2015.

This #MonkeyMonday let us introduce Captain Morgan. He is the alpha male in the 'Machete' group. Perhaps a somewhat unusual name for a group of monkeys, but it's not by chance. Our alpha is blind in his right eye likely as the result of a machete wound.

#Environmental #education is the most effective way to inspire people to protect #nature. Our flagship education program, Voces de la Naturaleza, is designed to share the value of nature with #Paraguayan youth, changing their attitudes towards the natural environment

This #Wildlifewedneday meet the Tayra! Essentially a giant weasel, the tayra is an adaptable omnivore found across Paraguay. Though a brief glimpse may suggest a cat, the hopping, weasel-like gait gives his identity away! This individual was photographed spying on the primate team back in 2013!!

It's #MonkeyMonday! Today we are looking back in time to photos of Joker. Joker was a little juvenile when these photos were taken back in 2015 at Laguna Blanca. Today he will be around 12 years old and maybe even running the group!!

Do you know much about Paraguay? Paraguay is a landlocked country in the heart of South America. From the Atlantic Forest to the Gran Chaco Paraguay is home to spectacular wildlife. But it's natural habitats are highly threatened by an incredibly high deforestation rate.
