Vanilla civ 6 I also think is very valid compared to the changes the DLC added, and I recommend trying it that way first. Mainly, adding the expansions just make it a little easier to snowball development or get very strong early yields. The DLC civs also skew more towards powerful than vanilla

I have played Civ 6 for around 1500 hours and I still enjoy it. I enjoy 4 and 5 to a lesser extent, and I have some nitpicks with balance, but I think Civ 6 is a in a good spot, there are a lot of fun and asymmetric civs, and I think the fun of city planning is the strongest here
