Absolutely. I think she suffers from “makes this shit look easy” syndrome and doesn’t get talked about enough for work in these.

I hope she gets some of the same mirror-ing that Jake/Quartich get with the new evil Navi lady.

Saldaña has an incredible primal scream during that scene, it gets me every time.

I read DISNEY WAR (excellent book) and there is such a prescient moment at the end when Eisner says that he will be the last “creative” CEO in the business and it’s all going to MBA guys going forward.

Sequel to CONCUSSION where this time Will Smith discovers the cover up around the brain trauma that pundits suffer from.

Super excited to have a rotating guest show again. I love Dave and Derrick but always interesting to get a new voice in there.

I think this is partially them replicating the cadence TV used to have where you had “mini cliff hangers” to keep people from losing interest before the cut to commercial.

But without the commercial breaks it sticks out as more artificial like you say.

Insane to me that leadership can’t manage to do effective performative opposition.

Yeah not saying we should despair or anything. Just that I think the mood was that progress would be more or less be carried by momentum when to your point, it always has been and will be an active fight.

I think towards the end of Obama it especially felt like the arc of the universe DID bend towards justice. And then it’s been a fairly brutal wake up call since then.

Yeah I was thinking yesterday that the Dems are “victims” of their own strategy. You can’t campaign on the GOP being a threat to democracy and then be like “okay we’re gonna work with them and not offer any pushback” and expect the base to be happy with you.

Can’t believe how quickly they have devolved into total tail eating over there.

The franchise is Disney animation, not any particular movie. But now they are redoing the mistakes of the early 2000s in terms of panicking because a couple “misses”.

I do like the over the top Shakespearean feel of the Asgard stuff as a contrast to the other bits.

It’s also such a *small* movie by comparison to other Marvel movies. He’s in Asgard and then spends the rest of the the movie in a small desert town.

It’s mostly more room to breathe and so you get some more texture/time with the characters. The biggest benefit is some of the side characters like Ejofor and TI (lol) don’t think it’s essential in the way BLADE RUNNER is or anything though.

It really is because Josh Brolin was like fifth person to come to mind and he’s absolutely amazing in it too. One of those movies where every few scenes a new ringer shows up.

The director’s cut was one of my earliest DVDs I bought with my own money, when basically every disc came with one.

Underrated Ridley, and a top flight Cuba Gooding Jr too

Yes! The party drug aspect was really annoying to me because it felt so much like that was being used to discredit the whole enterprise completely.
