#Anaconda is certainly as schlocky as its inspiration, but it does have a degree of charm to it. Paul Rudd and Jack Black, and especially Thandiwe Newton, are the main sources of that. It has some solid laughs and not-so-solid scares but is enjoyable enough. I’m a bit split on the Grade: C+/B-

#RentalFamily is one of the best films of the year, a genuinely heartfelt emotional rollercoaster in which every performance shines. Brendan Fraser especially is yet again a revelation. It’s also shot beautifully and a truly brilliant window into Japanese culture. This is a classic, folks. Grade: A+

#TheRunningMan is better than I expected! Though it’s played out with the dystopia, as everything is that lately (including reality!), it has fine aesthetics. More importantly the performances, especially Powell, Brolin, and a surprising Michael Cera and Lee Pace, are great. A fun ride. Grade: B+

#GoodFortune is a solid comedy with an equally solid and relatable message. Keanu Reeves and, to my genuine surprise, Aziz Ansari are both fairly fantastic throughout, and sell the emotional crux well. Seth Rogen is also hilarious and strong in more thoughtful moments too. Worth a watch. Grade: A-

Update: yeah, we got that one-two punch. One truly intimate and beautifully written picture, and one cinematic epic with unreal visuals. Both all about family with perfect casts who nail every element. Thank goodness!
I also think that the film, despite being somewhat disconnected in its main plot, does a shockingly good job of tying together basically every Phase 4 and 5 storyline and leading right into Fantastic Four. I’m hoping we get the one-two punch there that restarts the heart of the MCU. Great stuff.

#TheFantasticFourFirstSteps is the love letter to Marvel’s First Family that we’ve been waiting decades for. It’s beautiful in ways the MCU (more accurately MCM?) hasn’t been in a while, in both the on-screen visuals and the writing and performances. The cast is pitch-perfect! I need more. Grade: A

This is an unbelievable breach of aquarium ethics that ought to be roundly condemned. Georgia Aquarium’s mantas are all rescues from ACCIDENTAL capture by fishermen - SeaWorld Abu Dhabi has absolutely no excuse to be operating in this fashion. www.local10.com/news/local/2...

#Superman is a triumph, another revitalization of comic book cinema by James Gunn. While it does sometimes get a bit tied up in worldbuilding, it’s worth it for the lived-in universe they’ve crafted. Corenswet and Brosnahan are perfect castings and Hoult may be even more so. Bring me more! Grade: A

#CriminalMindsEvolution S3 is without a doubt the worst season of TV I’ve EVER watched. It is irredeemably, unbelievably poor in all facets save for one or two performances. I’ve wondered before if ChatGPT had a hand in writing it, but that may be insulting even artificial intelligence. Grade: F

#Ironheart is a fascinating take on Marvel’s stories as much more of an antihero narrative. Dominique Thorne gives a compelling, multifaceted performance as a tortured genius, and while all the writing isn’t perfect, the payoff is excellent. My hope is that it’ll be followed up on. Grade: A-

#F1 is one of the better sports movies recently, due to legitimately great performances from Pitt, Idris, Bardem, and Condon (also special shoutout to Tobias Menzies!). The VFX are very impressive, but no denying the plot is formulaic and it's not Zimmer's best score. Generally fun/good. Grade: B+

Okay so, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus is actually a fantastic casting choice that I really didn’t expect. Figured they go the easy route and have him play someone like Ares. But Menelaus, a rough-around-the-edges but generally decent-ish guy by Ancient Greek standards, really fits. #TheOdyssey

New attacks on Zohran Mamdani are coming from both the right (racist as always) and certain individuals in the center-left of the Democratic Party. The latter are more frustrating as they are trying to defend Jews, but we don't need defense from a man who doesn't want to hurt us.

I've become convinced that #CriminalMindsEvolution is actually written by ChatGPT. The other explanation is that real humans are this stupid and uncreative while simultaneously thinking their shit doesn't stink. This is too dark a possibility for my brain to want to consider.

#Ballerina is a really well-done spinoff, maintaining everything that’s worth loving about the Wickverse with a very strong new direction. Ana de Armas is an inspired casting and does even better in an action film than I would have thought. Very hopeful to see more of this new assassin. Grade: A-

I’m watching #CriminalMindsEvolution as I have been for the last two seasons, mostly because it’s like watching a train wreck - you can’t help but look at it. They’ve managed to incinerate every single good thing about the original show and its characters. It’s genuinely impressive in the worst way.

#Andor S2 is as masterful as the first, a deeply moving tale of revolution and struggle. It’s anchored by Luna’s performance, but just as much by Skarsgard’s haunting Luthen Rael, without whose tragedy Luke Skywalker would never have been relevant. Perfection in a galaxy far far away. Grade: A+

#Thunderbolts is a genuinely refreshing breath of fresh air, in which a well-executed MCU movie isn’t tainted by a subpar third act. Quite the opposite in fact, it’s brilliantly written and shockingly emotional. Pullman and Pugh shine, but so does the entire cast. Truly a momentum shift. Grade: A

#TheAccountant2 is both a great action flick and a throwback to those buddy-comedies rarely made well anymore. It works brilliantly off the chemistry of its two stars. Bernthal and Affleck are hilarious together and so believable as brothers. I found it to be a great time at the movies. Grade: A-

At this point, to claim that Nanotyrannus and Tyrannosaurus are the same is to deny evidence of your eyes.

Left image is Denver Museum of Nature and Science’s “Teen Rex.” Right is Jane, of the Burpee Museum. These are, according to some, two animals of the same species that are around the same age.

#DaredevilBornAgain is a bit of a Frankenstein’s monster, stitching together two very different concepts. I think the reason it works is neither are actually BAD, and the new showrunners did an impressive job. Regardless, it’s absolutely carried by Cox and D’Onofrio’s amazing performances. Grade: A

The current DA of Los Angeles is a reactionary conservative that lied about his actual beliefs to get into office as an “independent.” This should be a lesson to liberal voters in any large city, given that it happened to NYC as well with Eric Adams. Vote for real Democrats or progressives.
