I thought writing was pure escapism for me. Yet somehow the novel that got me an agent & the one we currently have on sub were both inspired by the medical issues I wanted so badly to escape from. The first one was more addressing trauma, but neither were subjects I planned to write about initially.

I know my local SCBWI chapter has a PB critique group that meets once a month during our monthly meeting. (There are also MG/YA groups there). Storyteller Academy might have critique groups for members. (I’m not a member though so I’m not certain about that one.)

Agreed! I’ve been so inspired reading my critique groups work. We’re all so different, but reading them help me see how I can improve my own work. It’s awesome.
