Even if the IT industry was fully ethical you would still have threat of malicious actors.

If the cost of making the video was lower than the profits they got while YT was wondering what to do about it, they will keep up doing it.

Between 2020 and 24 he gained 3 mln votes and 2pps. I believe that can be called " raise in popularity " but again the key is not the term but the fact that he is able to implement his agenda.

Germany has a steady raise in popularity for AFD, similarly populists are getting stronger in France then relatively recent successes in Austria, Slovakia, Romania just now. And also a whole plethora of more or less antidemocratic regimes in 1st and 2nd world.
Optimism would be very dangerous now

It's a simplification for sure, but it was meant as a response to a question in a specific context rather than a universal truth.

Because you will never solve an ethical question with solely factual premises

I think you misread the message here. He is clearly putting the different texts on the hats in opposition to each other.
April 29, 2025 at 1:59 PM
It's rather the other way around. The issue of cost of living is not mentioned enough (and not effectively enough), so the average Joe doesn't vote.
April 25, 2025 at 6:00 PM
The number of votes you get shows how popular you are

I don't believe racism is a product of economical anxiety, I believe economical anxiety is a catalyst for making racism a political tool
April 25, 2025 at 5:48 PM
I'm not just talking about the US, in most of Europe populist parities and agendas are stadilty gaining. Not sure what you mean Trump is unpopular given the fact that he easily won elections.
April 25, 2025 at 5:39 PM
I'm not saying economy (the disparity precisely) is supposed to replace those other topics in terms of agenda. At the same time I do believe it is the main problem which would solve a lot of other issues. E.g. you won't be worried about immigrants stealing you job if you feel economically safe.
April 25, 2025 at 5:31 PM
Just that the mechanisms are different doesn't mean they cannot serve same function. We got to start with at least explicating the conditions but I admit, I'm quite ignorant on consciousness, I feel it's a useless term, at least in the area of morality which is the original premise of the article.
April 25, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Assuming you are right, are you able to explain, where does the populist rise come from?
April 25, 2025 at 3:08 PM
I don't agree. I do think you can separate your political marketing message form the actual agenda. it may come with the cost of some concessions but the alternative is loosing.
I don't see a lot of people responding to moral arguments recently, mostly fear and disgust.
April 25, 2025 at 3:08 PM
so what is consciousness in the first place?
April 25, 2025 at 2:37 PM
You're making some good points but still I do think that in order to stop the spread of authoritarianism you need more universal messages to reach wider groups, and that's economy.
Being decent just doesn't seem to be compelling enough to win elections.
April 25, 2025 at 2:31 PM
I don't think anybody claims they are two entirely separate things, but they do draw different demarcation lines across society.
I think the point is that properly phrased class perspective can address most of the cultural issues while at the same time has a more universal appeal.

How did he deserve this? I fell you both are on the same side.
