It's like when teaching transitioned from being education to *childcare (and teaching continued to pay like shit). used to be male dominated, now 80% women

*this is not a dig at teaching, it's reality. public school is the most affordable childcare in the country

Mind you, the teachers did it. They went all in on the science of reading and went on to win awards and recognition and our school was literally used to train outside teachers how to do it.

The district will be closing our school next year due to declining enrollment and lack of funds.

Spoiler: science of reading works. But it's hard to convince people of anything when they're underpaid and drowning in initiative after framework after program year after year after year. Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching? Old news, now we're doing this. Good luck.

Science of Reading got rolled out two weeks before the beginning of a school year when I used to work in public schools. Implementation was rushed and hamfisted, which is often the case. Consultants get hired and tell teachers they have to do a bunch of unpaid work to prep a new curriculum.

Right? I've never had so many conversations with people who are just ready to fight who have literally never been a shit about anything before in their lives (slight exaggeration). Everybody has something.
