I have a lot of questions. Mostly if all of these people voted why does it look like that? Did all the votes count? Why is the men’s eligibility period different from the women’s? And where the fuck is Temwa Chawinga?

The World 11 is the only global football award decided exclusively by professional footballers. The FIFPRO Men's World 11 finalists are the 26 men's football players who received the most votes from their peers for their performances from 15 July 2024 to 3 August 2025 inclusive. Players must have appeared in at least 30 official matches during that period. The FIFPRO Women's World 11 finalists are the 26 women's football players who received the most votes from their peers for their performances from 11 August 2024 to 3 August 2025 inclusive. Much of the progress U.S. Soccer and the NWSL has seen over the past few years doesn't happen if Press was a degree less principled than she was forced to be. None of it should have been her job or responsibility, but she accepted it anyway, despite consequences to her own career. Press dared to have the audacity to believe that following the dream of playing soccer shouldn't require participation in systems rigged to make her powerless. This "radical" belief often made her a pariah, but it's also why time will carry her legacy forward as it begins to march again.

NBA referees are full-time employees, sparing them from having to pick up games in other leagues and spread themselves thin. Reviews are done at the league's Replay Center, where additional personnel and the latest technology help ensure the right decisions are made and it doesn't take an hour to do it. There's also a two-minute report, a review and assessment of all officiated events in the last two minutes of a game where the score is at or within three points. The report is then made public. The W doesn't have any of that. What's that old saying about getting what you pay for? Except, in this case, it's the players who pay the price, in bumps and bruises and broken bones.

I'd rather be an X-man. An X-Man is someone who has found themself, someone who knows who they are and accepted it with a grace and wisdom many people will never understand. An X-Man might have been given a rough hand in their life, but rather than letting that crush them, they have found a way to rise up. The X-Men don't care what you look like. They don't care if you are rich or poor. They don't care if you can lift a bus or barely lift a scrap of paper. They know it's what's in your heart that matters. When everyone else tallies up the mistakes and wrong turns you have made in your life, and remind you of it every chance they get, the X-Men say, 'We don't care who you were. What matters is who you are NOW. An X-Man extends their hand to those who need it. If you feel you can't overcome the challenges around you, the X-Men are there to run you through the Danger Room and support you every time you fall, until one happy day, you stop falling altogether. An X-Man gives you the truth you need to hear, and the kindness you can't forget. When society scorns the colors you wear, the X-Men say, let's dress up fancy and have a goddamn gala. The X-Men don't erase the past. They remember the Holocaust, they remember Jim Crow, and they actively seek to make sure it doesn't happen again. Your family rejects you? The X-Men are about protecting that one kid, that one child afraid to go to school, afraid to go out in public, afraid of even the people around them. They are about sanctuary, not cages.

My mom suffered from fibromyalgia and chronic pain before she passed and reading this made me cry. I hope this discovery leads to real pain relief as quickly as possible.
Dr Guy Bewick, and his team identified crucial evidence which laid the foundations for the discovery in Taiwan. Dr Bewick's team discovered that a molecule called glutamate is released in muscles to activate a highly unusual receptor. This sparked a collaboration with Professor Chen's team in Taiwan who found that too much glutamate release activated pain nerves nearby making them permanently active and not switch off as they normally would. Crucially, they then discovered that blocking the newly discovered, highly unusual, glutamate receptor entirely stopped the chronic pain being triggered. Dr Bewick said that: "This discovery means scientists can now start to develop new treatments specifically targeting this new pain pathway which does not respond to standard painkillers. "This has the potential to help the many people whose pain is currently inadequately treated."

A message to the fans... From the start of the tournament I have experienced a lot of racial abuse. Whilst I feel every fan is entitled to their opinion on performance and result I don't agree or think it's ok to target someone's appearance or race. As a result of this I will be taking a step back from social media and leaving it to a team to deal with. As ever I am grateful for all of the support from the genuine fans but I am taking this measure to protect myself in a bid to keep my focus on helping the team anyway I can. Hopefully speaking out will make the people writing this abuse think twice so that others won't have to deal with it. We have made some historic changes with this Lionesses squad that I am so proud to be a part of and my hope is that by speaking out about this it will make another positive change for all. I'm now looking forward and focusing on putting all of my energy into helping my team. Jess Carter

A little bit of good news.
A press release from the ACLU that says: LOS ANGELES - Today, a federal court found that the federal government's ongoing immigration raids in Southern California and its denial of access to counsel for arrested immigrants likely violated the Constitution, and issued two temporary restraining orders (TRO) prohibiting the federal government, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), from continuing its unlawful actions in Los Angeles and surrounding counties. The first TRO bars immigration agents from stopping individuals without reasonable suspicion and from relying on four factors - alone or in combination - including apparent race or ethnicity; speaking Spanish or English with an accent; presence in a particular location like a bus stop, car wash, or agricultural site; or the work the person does. The second TRO orders DHS to provide access to counsel on weekdays, weekends, and holidays for people who are detained in B-18, the federal building in downtown Los Angeles.

So is this saying that the NWSL’s policy requires intent? And saying “oh I didn’t mean to” is enough to evade consequences? They’ve gotta change that.
In a statement, the NWSL said "The investigation concluded that Coach Montoya did not violate the NWSL Policy to Prevent and Eliminate Workplace Discrimination, Harassment, and Bullying. The investigation also found that there were shortcomings in Coach Montoya's communication style. The investigators made a series of recommendations to both Bay FC and the NWSL to facilitate more effective communication and enhance support structures, which the NWSL, Bay FC and Coach Montoya have taken, and are continuing to take, to address such concerns." One person in the meetings said that the investigators found "multiple instances" of "emotional distress." Still, because investigators found that Montoya did not intend to cause harm, they could not recommend any discipline.That person said investigators also called the behavior "unacceptable."

Whether it's the sheriffs, police, or Border Patrol, "it was brutal violence,” said Ron Gochez, a community organizer, who was part of the protests. "What they didn't think was going to happen was that the people would resist." Over eight hours on Saturday, he said, after a battle with Border Patrol - “and it was a battle, because there were people throwing back tear gas, people throwing anything that they could to defend themselves and to defend the workers that were being surrounded" — the Border Patrol retreated. "And the hundreds of workers that were in the factories around them were able to escape," Gochez recounted. "They were able to go to their cars and go home. That was only thanks to the resistance that allowed them to go home that night." If any community was going to fight back without apology, it was this one.

Exactly. It’s so frustrating to me that people are pretending that all the criticism is from people who didn’t read it. This longing for the time when queer rights was all about gay men fucking sucks. It’s intensified by the NYT’s history on trans people but not all about that.
An excerpt of a New Tork Times article that says: younger queer people, coming out versus staying closeted is an antiquated choice, a form of pigeonholing with little resonance in a 21st century that's more defined by a long drop-down menu of identity options, including “prefer not to say," a choice that, for some of them, has none of the political weight that it might have carried right after Stonewall, or in the middle of the fight against the "don't ask, don't tell" policies that were adopted by the American military in the 1990s. To evoke 1974 or 1985 or 1997 onscreen is, for a couple of hours, to allow older gay men to forget our contemporary diminishment and the minimization of our history — to return to a world in which we were at the heart of queer culture and discourse. There is, undeniably, drama in oppression and romance in fighting it. We were the cause then. Now, not so much.
