Amateur nature photographer. I hike a lot of parks in Baltimore county with my GSDs Diefenbaker and Mackenzie; they stop and smell things, I stop and take photos.

This is the snowiest winter we've had in years, and I'm loving the views (and a spouse who's home to help shovel!).

One of my fox friends came back for an afternoon siesta.

What I love about the suburbs is getting to this out my back window. This pair of courting red foxes played for 20 minutes at sunrise this morning.

In less depressing news:

It's amazing how after all these cameras and all these recording and all these years, this is the first time we've caught a meteor strike on video.
P.E.I. homeowner captures sound and video of meteorite strike on camera, and scientists believe it's a first | CBC News
A man in Prince Edward Island got doubly lucky last July, recording a meteorite's impact on his home security cameras. The space rock also landed in the exact spot he'd been standing minutes earlier.

It's fox mating season here and so they are romping around more in the daylight than usual. Such pretty red coats against the snow!

I found a surprising abundance of native plants in bloom in a narrow band around a big lake the other day. First up is tall meadow rue. It's in the same genus as rue anemone, a spring ephemeral. The flowers look very different, but the leaves are the same.

We took an epic three hour hike last week, on a new-to-us trail, and I took many scenic photos.

I'm behind in posting! Here's mountain laurel, one of my favorite native flowers.

Today is apparently National German Shepherd Day, so here's Mackenzie and Diefenbaker who are eager to learn of forthcoming festivities and treats.

Good walk yesterday, and the best pose I've gotten out of my dogs in while. The highlight was mutually startling/being startled by a barred owl in a tree very close to us. He flew off to a further tree, which meant I could only get a low quality pic with my phone.

I usually try to add Alt text to all of my photos, and apologize in advance for not having the mental bandwidth to add it today.

I was chuffed to spot my first pawpaw flowers on today's hike. I've walked past this tree for years, and never noticed it when in bloom before!

My pups attempt to pose on today's walk. Nailed it.

I picked today's hiking location because I expected it to be full of jack-in-the-pulpit, and I was not disappointed!

Normally I'm on the hunt for wildflowers, but today I went to a local tulip garden that always has the most gorgeous beds.

I prioritized the experience over nailing the photos. So my totality shot is shitty. But I'm so glad I experienced it and happy enough with the photos I did achieve.
