If you had solar power, you could power your car off sunlight for free without even caring about power losses.

EVs are GREAT during power loss situations, actually. Many have the ability to use its battery to power your refrigerator and other loads in the house while you wait for the power to come back on.

You've got one in Folkston and a few near 95 in Kingsland. Honestly, with only a 15 minute drive, to Folkston, you're probably very fine, especially if you have at-home charging. Though it definitely wouldn't be convenient in your area to primarily rely on public charging.

If you're doing a road trip you've got plenty of chargers nearby. Though I agree, if you live there and don't have any power outlets near where you park your car so you could charge at home, I wouldn't recommend someone living there to get an EV

"It’s about getting to the destination quickly and spending time there and not on the road."
I used to hotseat hard core in my ICE car when I had one. I would arrive at my destination completely wiped out and unable to do anything. Now I arrive relaxed and ready to party.

Whatever works for you tho

"I have a limited vacation time and money."
Which is why it's nice to not have to pay for gas + maintenance on my EV.

"I hot seat the car the whole trip "
You do you, but I find it way more relaxing and healthy to take breaks every 3 hours or so, like experts recommend.

"My car is sitting in my driveway and doesn’t need to be plugged in. "
My car sits in my garage and I never need to go to a gas station.

"I drive 40 miles one way to the grocery store and to work. No charging stations at work."
This describes most EV driver's experiences, yet we love it

"ICE vehicles have a 100 year head start."
EV cars existed before ICE cars

"Maybe in 100 years the EV will surpass the ICE vehicles"
Most EV drivers think it already has surpassed it. As did people 100 *years ago* when they first came out. Gas was a cute fad, but IMO it's over.

"Who wants to wait 5 hours when it could be 5 minutes"
When I'm not doing road trips, I spend less than 5 seconds recharging... Because I just finish driving for the day, plug it in, and forget about it until the next time I need to drive.

"No generator needed"
I could drive my car from sunlight.

*Ev charging stations are as ubiquitous as gas pumps: in some places, there are in fact more charging “pumps” than there are gas pumps at this point, and that changeover is already growing

* can recharge car in same time it takes to fill tank: that exists now
* 600 miles: they won’t make this because in reality virtually no one wants it for real. It’s too much battery to haul around while most folks drive 40 miles a day on average
* independent repair shops: yeah, that’s a real issue

We went from 2 gas cars to 2 EVs over a few years for similar reasons.

My housemate is learning to drive on electric. I’m fascinated that she will never have experienced driving a gas car.

Huh. I was interviewing to work there recently and decided not to continue with them after I got a remote job offer from a different place. Sounds like I dodged a bullet.

Wow!

I think both are true, but that seems like the worse one for sure.

For myself, having a device that has *one* purpose helps my brain stay focused on that purpose as I sit down at that device to use it. Whereas my laptop always has a hundred other things going on and I lose focus super easily.

I’m a big fan of these sorts of single purpose “writerdeck” products. I think the two leaders in this field, Freewrite and Remarkable, make awesome products that do everything they promise to do, but they’re also really expensive.
