In my experience (which is often with at least two buddies in multiplayer) a lot of the convos are controlled by either who starts them or proximity, which can obviously be finicky. But I’d echo other comments in that it opens up the game in different ways when you can’t just blast through checks

You won’t but if you hate the “what if” feeling from failed checks you have multiple followers who can sub in.
