Star Sapphire is another comic book feast for the senses: wrapped round a contrast of midnight locks to fair skin, her magenta costume delivers without mixture one of the primary inks of four-colour printing. And she herself is costume: a space amazon identity that takes hold of a normal human.
Star Sapphire: an adversary but not always a villain. Star Sapphire flying above San Francisco Star Sapphire's ambivalence toward Hal Jordan a.k.a. Green Lantern – alternately trying to do crimes and drag him back to the planet Zamaron as her husband – was typified by her possession of aircraft corporation CEO Carol Ferris, who herself was developing a relationship with Hal. But that dual-courtship was temporarily set aside in the comics shown here, when Star possessed the devious club secretary of The Society of Super Villains.

The curtain of purplish red and metallic blue, the amber lamps giving walls and seating a warm brown cast and extensive relief work that turns the space into an exquisitely carved cavern. Paramount Theatre, Oakland: a Mighty Wurlitzer organ being played at the foot of the stage. If you can remember the ending of the film, it's ironic that this evening's show was Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

Julie Newmar as Catwoman: an absolute experience. There's so much going on here beyond a perfect match of outfit to body. Glittery textures that provoke one's sense of touch, a deep, dark violet at the far end of visible colour and that physically-evocative feline stretch!
