Robert Kaiser--an innocent father who was wrongly convicted and imprisoned thanks to the flawed theory of shaken baby syndrome--has been added to the National Registry of Exonerations. Kaiser is the 41st person on the registry cleared of SBS accusations.

My deepest thanks to @rfkhumanrights.bsky.social for recognizing my reporting on how shaken baby syndrome lives on in the courts under a new name as mounting exonerations and new science raise grave questions about the diagnosis.

The great @mariahblake.bsky.social has written a powerful new book about the campaign to hide the dangers of forever chemicals.

The Washington Post called it “riveting,” a “deft chronicle of one of the greatest moral scandals of our time,” and “a book that none of us can afford to miss.”

At the top of my reading list: @calebgayle.bsky.social's forthcoming BLACK MOSES, about a 19th-century Black visionary who dreamed of a state governed by and for Black people. It's my favorite kind of story--a buried history of resistance and possibility.

Kudos to @liseolsen.bsky.social for finding a way to write about a haunting case in a humane and illuminating way: by chronicling the efforts of a forensic anthropologist to restore the identities of its teenage victims.

If you're feeling like there are no heroes anymore, or that you need some words of wisdom today, take the time to read the end of this beautiful remembrance of civil rights attorney L. Clifford Davis:

I’m reading @elongreen.bsky.social’s forthcoming THE MAN NOBODY KILLED, and it’s a beautifully rendered—but devastating—portrait of 1980s NYC. It begins on the last night of artist Michael Stewart’s life, just before a fatal beating at the hands of transit cops. Deeply reported and haunting.
