Δεν είναι πλερωμή. Φόρος υποτέλειας είναι.

I wonder if ID verification (like revolut does for example) would fix things somehow.

You may be right.
I am just thinking that if the likes of Elon or Putin want to ruin it, they will.

Problem is that lots of people (or organizations) will be willing to subscribe to make your subscription social media exactly the same as free social media.

Opportunist: I had to drink it to end the argument

And Homer was a Turkish guy called Omer amirite?

It's not an obstacle in itself and not about inclusivity. It informs the conversation and can give it meaning. I suppose that's why social media relationships "mature" and become more meaningful with time and repeated interactions. I now know more about you and where you are coming from😉

IMO human interaction cannot be "sandboxed". Even at courts of law, externalities matter.

You can never completely solve the problems, as is true in the analog world. But you can take steps in making it less toxic and manipulative.

I have had heated arguments on x and later found out it was the 17 yro son of a friend! You engage differently when you know who you are talking with.

It's absurd. How do I know you are not a Russian LLM?
November 24, 2024 at 8:31 AM
Of course. It's all about whether we trust bsky with our data or whether they want money to keep it private. Can't have our cake and eat it.
IMO either we pay to keep it or they pay us to share it.
November 24, 2024 at 8:30 AM
Thinking about it now, why on earth did we ever decide to engage in conversation with people who we don't know. Most of them we would probably cross the street so as we don't have to have eye contact.
For many we can't even know if they even exist.

The CEO of Airbnb made an interesting observation in an interview. He said Airbnb cannot survive not verifying it's users AND the locations for rent. His take was that social media should work in the same way. (The hacking target is squarely on bsky's side to protect).

I think it would be easier to moderate real users than bots.

Verification for every account is the only way. Once that is in place the rest is doable.

Αφού εν αρκοντες γιατί δεν πα να φαν κανένα ποντικό τζιαι πρήζουν μας τα ώρα πέντε το πρωί για να φαν *συγκεκριμένη μάρκα* γατοτροφης;
Αν ήταν αρκοντες, με το πρώτο "φύε" "σκάσε" ή "εσιεξιξι" θα επηαίνναν να φαν κάτι άλλο.
