These bloom the week of my birthday every year They’ve lived with me for almost 29 yrs through 5 homes and 3 states and the past 2 years they’ve started producing seedlings - I love them deeply #bloomscrolling #OputiniaHumifusa

Had a chance to take a mini vacation for my birthday- see gorgeous Lake Tahoe, do a little kayaking, see some fabulous baskets and give a conference paper (it’s been like 5? yrs since I last did that) and generally relax

The boys meanwhile have enjoyed yet another afternoon of rough housing. RIP my living room (don’t worry this actually is play - I’ve seen Tony go full murder mode on another cat - this definitely isn’t it. He’s 16.5lbs of muscle. Seamus is 6.5 lbs - they’re having a grand time).

Seamus’ brother from another mother - Tony- is spending the weekend with us and despite Lily’s feelings of deep personal betrayal by this turn of events the boys seem to be having a good time and Lily is begrudgingly acquiescing to share space with the goofuses

I was going to go hiking in the Shenandoah today but instead I spent 1.5 on the side I64 waiting for roadside assistance. But thanks to VA Trooper who stopped to check on me and this pretty viburnum I hung out by while waiting (hit a pothole so bad that it claimed four cars by 11 am today)

I had to go to NOVA today - for what turned out be a pointless effort - but I salvaged the day by going to one of the prettiest places on the Potomac - Great Falls NPS. Public lands are so important to us all.

Since it started to warm up - the Fish Crows have taken to using the transmission tower near my apt to gather pre-dusk before they head to their roost further south of me - and I love them so hard…

Outside listening to a glorious unending opera of bird song and according to the Merlin app it’s these seven bird species. Friends. It is not. It is one very happy fluffy mockingbird bird, some house finches and the robins. I love mockingbirds so much.
