But he prides himself somewhat on his resistance of those urges, of denying them, and he has come to realize that redemption, at least the way he sees it, is not some goal you reach and then you're done, but rather it is an ongoing process that you have to stick to.

He still struggles with his past, the things he did and the basically sadism that was fostered in him are things that linger to this day, and are aspects that jump at any remote chance to pull him back into those ways.

At first he wanted to "redeem the crusade" as a whole. He wore the Scarlet tabard whilst trying to offer help to people in need, but after being chased away with pitchforks and torches a few too many times he had to give that aspiration up.

My main character was a Scarlet once. However due to prolonged absence from the overall crusade his mind began to clear from corruption and manipulation and he began to try and change his ways.
