I learned to do that back with Lord Foul’s Bane. I couldn’t stand all the sniveling from the “hero” so after torturing myself for 2/3rds the book, hoping for improvement, I tossed it aside. It feels good, and reading becomes much more relaxing.

This year the Brown-Eyed Susans made a break for it, claiming 5-6 sqft of space adjacent to the bed, filling it with their yellow-orange blooms. Now the time has come to clean up, I’m thinking I’ll let them keep it. More work for me now, but next year a little less for me to mow.

I’ll have to look into those for next year. I tried Lemon cucumbers this year. Highly productive, but sensitive to cold and not a detectable (to me) difference in flavor. Gonna make some pickles from them, see how that goes.

Experiment report: built a trellis ~3’ above the strawberries. They climbed vertically onto it, then spread up there. They loved it, shade might have retarded strawberry production a little, not enough data, but they also retarded the wild morning glory invasion of the bed as well.
