That is fair generalisations are bad though I have to say I've seen many from Niall about the British and English in particular.

They are far more Indian then Irish but alas India does not allow dual citizenship. They just use the Irish passport as a sort of hack for European travel.

I'm in the same position, I'm half English though I was really hoping one of my grandparents was actually Irish, this happened to be the case with my cousins who are also half English/half Indian, they got lucky with an Irish grandparent despite never having met the fella or been to Ireland.

As a member of the British Asian community I don't really see anything wrong with that conversation, sadly it's true at least in my experience.

Perhaps @andrewhesselden.bsky.social @donself99.bsky.social @bobbymartin1.bsky.social would like to respond instead of being talked about via screenshot

Why should uni fees be a thing at all? They're beyond the scope of YMV, student visas already exist.

You basically look at the European countries that have YMV with Australia or Canada and approach them saying "hey we also partake in these schemes, let's expand our offerings" like any other 3rd country. Hell it worked with Iceland in 2022.
January 30, 2025 at 2:03 PM
Then who's paying for overseas citizens who have never set foot in, much less paid any tax to, their country of citizenship?

If a Brit want to voluntarily contribute directly to the EU budget why not let them, they'd be contributing more then the aforementioned overseas citizen.
January 30, 2025 at 2:00 PM
Countries add new countries to their existing YMV arrangements all the time by simply copy/pasting the existing one see Finland/Canada just last March. It's not so much a negotiation just adding another country to an existing scheme, this would be much quicker than a new bespoke EU wide scheme.

And that outside view is fair enough for the average European but Niall also knows that at no point did a majority of the electorate vote for it, but he keeps repeating his nonsense nonetheless.

So the UK is exceptional.
January 25, 2025 at 10:28 PM
None require a bachelors degree or 3 years professional experience.

The only requirement is 18-30/35.
January 25, 2025 at 10:28 PM
Why do people only bash the English for using this perfectly legitimate term?
January 25, 2025 at 6:45 PM
My cousins for example, my (Indian) uncle, like my dad, also married an English woman but unlike my mum she had an Irish dad so they've got Irish passports, but they'll never say they're Irish.
January 25, 2025 at 6:25 PM
Speaking personally even if I could get an Indian passport it's useless so I wouldn't even bother, I'm not Indian. If my grandparents were Italian and nothing else about my life was different I wouldn't be Italian but I'd certainly get the passport.
January 25, 2025 at 6:21 PM
Identity is a complex and personal thing. For a lot of people they don't identify with their 2nd nationality at all, they'll say "I have x passport" not "I'm x" it's just a document they're lucky enough to qualify for, nothing else and they freely admit this.
January 25, 2025 at 6:21 PM
So it's not unreasonable to assume dual citizens may have split loyalty, a lot of countries with national service exclude dual citizens because of this risk.
January 25, 2025 at 6:00 PM
This is true but some of us don't get dual citizenship because of it.

We're told w're not really British but it's all we've ever known and we don't even have another citizenship.
January 25, 2025 at 5:59 PM
It wouldn't take years, it'd actually be much quicker many of EU countries have such schemes just copy and paste the existing deals that the Aussies, Kiwis, Canadians etc have
January 25, 2025 at 5:55 PM
That is completely different
January 25, 2025 at 5:53 PM
There isn't one with India. But to throw it back at you I wonder if you think Korea, Japan, NZ and a bunch of other countries who have reciprocal YMS with individual EU countries on a bilateral basis are trying to divide Europe?
January 23, 2025 at 11:35 PM
Indeed. You could argue the UKs unprecedented commitment to Europe was it's downfall. Had we had referendum of Maastricht and Lisbon and restricted A8 migration like many others perhaps Euroskeptism wouldn't have flourished.
January 21, 2025 at 9:14 PM
The "tolerant left" tends to be far less tolerant.
January 19, 2025 at 10:00 PM
I'm speaking from lived experience growing up in and around these communities, they are totally alien.

Its not good. And it's becoming worse.
January 19, 2025 at 12:01 AM
Ah yes mock me because of my name.

You lot are all racists.

Mark especially has form for taking the piss out of Asian names.
