I have this idea to do a portrait series of people - not celebrities - wearing incredible animal masks - but the masks exposing their eyes. Anyone know any terrific mask makers that want to collaborate? I’m anxious to make something to counter the existential dread. Also art.

Photogravure—the slowest, most stubborn way to print a photograph. But for me the most rewarding. Ever worked with an old-school printing process? Wanna tell me why you put up with the trouble...? #Photogravure #VintageArt #Printmaking #OldSchool #PhotographyLovers #ArtProcess

Screens are fine. But a screen glows—a print absorbs. A print stays. The way ink or silver settles into paper. Printing isn’t about permanence. It’s about seeing slower. When was the last time you printed a photograph? #photography #printing #blackandwhite #photogravure

And a few more. I'm still on a space and futurist tip. More exploring to do. Especially to combat the regressive vibe in the news... #printmaking #monoprint #gellplate

Why black and white? For me, it’s presence, contrast, and timelessness. Simple, tidy, and elegant. What does it do for you? #blackandwhite #photography #mexico #mexicocity

Digging out some of last years highlights to get my mojo up to make a bunch more. My teen years brought back as monoprints. #printmaking #monoprint #gelplate

This should probably embarrass me but, I only just discovered the absolutely INCREDIBLE printmaking community in Mexico City. In one weekend I saw maybe 30 plus artists, all of whom exhibited terrific craft and some of whom exhibited unreal art. mezzo, Lino, block, litho...so so good!

So with the Omnicom/Interpublic merger and the Publicis/Leo merger we see a continuing shift to service global/enterprise corps with global/enterprise agencies. How does a medium sized regional business advertise? Should they advertise? What does NOT holding company advertising look like?
January 15, 2025 at 4:43 PM
What does the Leo/Publicis merger mean for everyone NOT a shareholder? More layoffs by a very profitable company. An ever-shrinking market for ad-industry employment. An industry that focuses on global/enterprise clients to make money by serving AI derived creative directed by data analytics. Yikes

Yesterday I was parked downtown TO waiting for my wife & child. A guy came to my car & handed me a lovely apple just because. A simple, and sincere gift. And it was received with gratitude. Small choices can create joy. I am challenged to do better because of this person.

While discussing with a friend at a resto, I got criticized by an (eavesdropping) patron that I should care about the housing crisis and cost-of-living in Toronto more than 'elite' artists. But most artists are small businesses. #torontoculture #whomatters By all means, open more cannabis shops...

So how does Toronto create a city for artists? I guess the question should be 'does Toronto/Ontario/Canada care about artists?' Do we consider multinational corps fronted by TaylorS/Drake/LionKing to be art and/or culture? Do we want to be Las Vegas? Or Berlin? or Paris? or NYC?

The City of Toronto "Culture Connects" sets out an un-ambitious plan with KPIs designed to be met with the least imaginative, lowest effort, lowest impact actions. But it looks like extra money for big players hoping to subsidize their profits...Rogers and LiveNation must be happy.

Some napkin math. Toronto (the city/org) likes to tout it's $upport for the arts and for culture. TORONTO (TAC + City of Toronto Grants): $12.35 CAD per capita. NYC (DCLA) $31.37 CAD per capita (converted from $23.53 USD) Toronto = Big talk, little action. But they made Taylor Swift street signs
