This has been an interesting experiment, but I think I'm probably going to just stick with mastodon. Bluesky doesn't suck yet, but it seems like all Big Corporate Websites eventually enshittify…

Not sure if they’re the very first one in literature, but Tik-Tok from the Land of Oz is clearly a robot, and predates Rossum's Universal robots by years.

I always liked Interface Builder, but I have been using SwiftUI recently and find that I am *way* more productive and it to be significantly less fiddly. I'm able to leverage a lot of my experience with Swing layouts, HTML DOM and CSS.

ChatGPT completely fails to externalize any uncertainty about its sometimes spectacularly incorrect findings. It's like if Google only had the "I'm feeling lucky" button, but it was labeled "Search".

Incredibly, there seems to be no direct way to search for a word in Kindle without getting false hits on words that happen to contain that same sequence of letters, as a substring.

My shabby workaround: find your book on books.google.com and search inside the book, there

I have lived long enough to go from a time when the telephone was most important communications medium on Earth to one in which every business phone number connects to a labyrinthine voicemail tree where every node consists of a "mailbox full" message.

Building PC's is fun but I don't think it really makes economic sense any more unless you want high-end video, crazy amounts of storage or idiosyncratic I/O… otherwise just get an off-the-shelf mini PC or a game console.

The title "Wicked" on the movie posters is a misrepresentation. The true title is "Wicked, Part 1" and it doesn't tell a complete, coherent story.

When I started posting on Bluesky, I was looking forward to maybe recovering some of the (minimal) engagement I lost when I left X for mastodon.

So far, I have had a single post that peripherally mentions the McRib liked by @ McRibIsBack ☺

Bad:
• US human/reproductive rights in serious jeopardy
• creeping Fascism
• BEST case climate scenario is continued increased wildfires & hurricanes
• A plurality of US voters are apparently OK with it

Good:
• McRib is back?

I had a bunch of old DVD-R's and recently started actually using them, for operating system installers. Slightly noisy, but significantly cheaper than micro SD cards, easier to label, and much harder to lose!

Some projects on GitHub without releases no longer compile. Coping strategies:
1. Find the commit that best coincides with posts/articles about the repo.
2. Look for forks with higher engagement
3. Build on a system (OS, CPU, etc.) that was typical of the time when the commit was made.
