Not to mention a -$1m to invest in plant, property & equipment

Also fwiw - I have always found that the best way to apply for an HF job is to write some high quality actionable research on a current idea.
That approach has got me intros with several big “named” managers. Many will be happy to meet with you if you prove yourself to be of value

Haha - never “sat in a room” with Bessent - but years ago did with Ackman (like you say many other investors there too) and the most important learning I took away is the confirmation that he’s just another human being.

It takes about ten years to spec in a new material and part for an airplane - I used to cover $VCT (victrex - they make PEEK)
So either it takes well over ten years (and that ignores the time taken to acquire the IP and know how) OR they lower safety standards…
