These spirits demand respect. Legend holds that anyone who looks directly at them or obstructs their path may face dire consequences—unless they have ancestral ties or show reverence by lying face down.

The Nightmarchers—or huaka‘i pō—are ghostly apparitions of ancient warriors who once served Hawaiian chiefs.

Said to rise from burial sites or sacred grounds, they march in formation at night, accompanied by the sounds of drums, chanting, and conch shells.
