Yes, that sounds very reasonable to me (re:main supervisor being from the host uni). And I concur, it does sound strange 🤷🏻‍♂️

It may be a good idea to ask whether they expect you to have a primary (regular meetings once a month, reading all chapters, etc) or secondary (a meeting once a year reading a single chapter per year) role?

As far as I know, it depends on. Some committee members in the US play the role of meeting the phd candidate once a year, other committee members are proper supervisors who meet their PhDs once a month or so. It just depends whether they expect u to be the primary supervisor or have a secondary role

I was not aware of this either! So sad... :S
For what it's worth, I sent an abstract for the APSA conference about a couple of years ago and they rejected a presentation that would be published at the APSR...
