The two cards I got to paint for the new Avatar: The Last Airbender |Magic:The Gathering set! Painted an Ostrich-Horse and the iconic Agni Kai between Zuko and Azula! Big thanks as well to AD Cassie Murphy!

Finally came up with a composition to have a take on Giganotosaurus! The group behavior based on the remains of Mapusaurus seemingly showcasing that lifestyle. Otherwise, I always love reflections and unconventional approaches to showcasing well known animals! #paleoart #paleosky #giganotosaurus

And the color rough and value composition! This was a really straightforward piece thanks to all the planning steps- sometimes with personal work I like to explore a little more to the final, but I knew from the start the sort of composition I wanted to aim for here!

Yutyrannus trio closing in on Dongbeititan 🦕 inspired by how the original material for Yutyrannus was a trio of individuals possibly indicating social behavior, and then the limited material for Dongbeititan includes a rib bone with a theropod tooth embedded! #paleosky #yutyrannus #dongbeititan

Mushed together some inspiration of fossil evidence of predator skeletons with visible tail spike damage from stegosaurus and modern wildlife photography of deer going about with the stuck heads of rivals on their antlers-macabre but fits the month! #paleoart #paleosky #stegosaurus

A few more- the main things I focused on were mark making, color, and overall just variety of shapes and better control over the medium. Most of these were 30 minutes or less, as I wanted to keep from over-rendering!

Outdoor paintings from a recent visit to Seattle- with this batch I’ve also managed to make over 100 plein air paintings this year! I feel I’m finally starting to get a decent workflow down, and to understand the kinds of compositions I wanna look for when I’m outside painting! #pleinair #oilpaint

I’m also including a video of the scene I built in blender for this project! I used a workflow that better combined photoshop and blender, with textures made directly in photoshop and then final paintover done in that software as well! More steps are on my site, linked in my bio!

Painting showing a group of the giant marine reptile, Ichtyotitan. Like the modern but unrelated whales they rivaled in size, these animals likely migrated to the same shallow seas over millenia to give birth, and there are fossil beds of close relatives that also support this behavior! #paleosky

I think this kind of language is perfectly valid when speaking about megafauna that locals have some clear respect for! There’s a book I just read where you see references not to “tigers” but to “The tiger” when indigenous beliefs about the animal are discussed. More info in this image’s alt text!
