That was certainly true 25 years ago. But I don't think it's as true as it was back then. There isn't NY Cosmos fever anymore. Ft. Lauderdale was the center of attention for the MLS this year and probably will be again this season.

Realistically considering the FIFA requirements for hosting a final and the remaining candidates being MetLife Stadium & AT&T Stadium, where would you prefer the World Cup Final be held? NYC or NTX?

Also I would point to our large NTX Mexican-American population as another obvious connection to ⚽. El Tri plays here all the time, sells out, & brings in huge $$$ to local economy. (As a USMNT this can be a real PITA b/c US Soccer sees NTX as a home game for MX. So we rarely get those matches)

I certainly understand that feeling given 🏈 here as an obsession. North Texas though has long been a youth soccer hotbed producing talents like Clint Dempsey & Ricardo Pepi & hosting the Dr Pepper Cup. Lamar Hunt was a huge promoter of ⚽ w/ NASL (Dallas Tornado) & later w/MLS (he owned 3 clubs).

FIFA requires a stadium w/ seating capacity of 80,000. The Austin FC stadium is a SSS with only 20,000.

The game would be played at AT&T Stadium, not the Toyota Stadium where FC Dallas plays.

But I grant that Austin FC has a more fervent following. FC Dallas left for Frisco years ago.
