If Trump is going to put tariffs on Canada and Mexico, then won't those countries put tariff on the US too? During Trump's first term, he tried it with China and China retaliated.

It does not need the US market. The companies that manufacture in Mexico, most of them are US companies, such as Toyota, Hyundai, etc., so US companies will be impacted and US consumers will pay more for cars and gasoline to purchase those products.

The last time Trump placed tariffs on products made in Mexico, Mexico stopped buying 8 billion dollars a year of Soy. Mexico and China both invested 5 billion dollars in producing soy in Brazil. Both China and Mexico are not buying Soy from US farmers and the US government is subsidizing them
