I did translation hacks, fixes, and re-releases for the N64. Games: OoT/MQ, Majoras Mask, Shiren 2, Getter Love, Doshin, SimCity 64, 40 Winks, Glover, SSSV, etc. Now I do scanning, type-ins, and game preservation with Gaming Alexandria
I finally got the N64DD mug scanned in at high resolution (1600dpi 48-bit) and uploaded to IA. You can see the scans here: archive.org/details/64dd... and get a better view of the RandNet icons pictured on it.

I've only seen images of one or two of these online, and I've never seen it for sale before.

There were only 50 of them created. They were sent out based on a lottery to Randnet subscribers as a thank you gift when the service shut down in 2001.

I finally found one of my holy grail items. The N64DD Mug.

Happy Valentines Day from Typing Task Force!

Here's an image from "Mario and Lady Compatibility Fortune Telling" for the Family Basic. It isn't on Gaming Alexandria yet, but it is on its way.

An updated English translation patch for N64's Getter Love is now available! This fixes a crash that sometimes happened around Day 8-11. A few textures were fixed and a debug menu was found. More details along with the latest patch (v1.03) can be found here: krikzz.com/forum/index....

Happy Gaming!

Shiren 2 Manju Box scanned in. I saw this years ago and thought it looked cool. Took a while to get one to scan: archive.org/details/shir...

As I was creating a list of Family Basic books and magazines, Program Pochette turned up a lot in my searches. It was always so expensive though. I'm glad it was finally found at a good price and preserved. One of my favorite FB type-ins, Wizalian, came from issue '85 vol 3.

The best part is seeing familiar names such as Yuki♡ and Takashi Watanabe and ..G. I'm sure some of them are staff programmers, but it's still fun to recognize a name across multiple Program Pochettes. Some of these names show up in Technopolis and For MSX Best 50 as well.

I took a break from Technopolis and worked on cataloging Program Pochette tonight. My favorite part is the index. It's a nice, simple list of all the Type-ins with page numbers and which systems they go to. After I capture that, all I need to do is flip through pages getting the Author.

Technopolis 1985-02 has an article about getting the most from your systems. For Family Basic 2.0, they created a table of the Commands and how they map to hex.

This link has the audio I was able to pull from the cassette along with a recreation of the original audio: archive.org/details/lets.... I used the the cassette's insert to recreate it. It's just the programs in the book from the simplest to the most complex including 4 games saved to audio.

The book is very common and easy to find. It's also preserved here (archive.org/details/lets...). The cassette is harder to find. I purchased the only one I could find, but the audio did not survive. Here are scans of the cassette: archive.org/details/lets....

I'm flipping through Technopolis 1985 01 (yay I made it!), and there's an article about a "long-awaited, first Family Basic Book", Let's Play with Family Basic! They recommend it to readers as a better manual than the Family Basic manual, and hope that readers will use it to start making games.

Keep an eye on @gamingalexandria.bsky.social for links and shout outs for all these. I do want to highlight New Butt Sumo for the Family Basic. They love making silly drawings to match the games. Shout out to ximwix who has been typing his way through quite a few Micom Basic Family Basic games.

Back to adding type-in websites to @gamingalexandria.bsky.social (Gaming Alexandria)'s website. You can see the latest list of type-ins here (www.gamingalexandria.com/wp/type-in-p...). The latest batch covers the following systems: MSX, PC-8001, PC-6001, and my personal favorite, Family Basic.

SUCCESS! The first Family Basic game in Technopolis. Issue 1984-09 p37 has an article on the release of the Family Basic and taking it for a spin. The author creates a very basic game (hah) (my bad joke) called Star Interceptor. Just in time because I am stopping for now after this issue.

We're getting close! The C1 and Family Computer were listed in a BASIC Benchmark article with a TON of other computers. AND there's a short blurb on the Family Basic later in the issue (Technopolis 1984-08). My time is running out so I doubt I'll hit 1985 today.
October 27, 2024 at 8:44 PM
I'm working through Technopolis looking for type-ins. I'm on 1984-06 Issue 23 and I found ~500 type-ins since 1982-08 Issue 1. I was hoping to make it to 1985 to look for Family Basic Type-Ins, but suddenly the # of type-ins doubled 😮 Great for the community but it's slowing me down! 😀

Finally, I like to keep an eye out for ads. Mostly for Family Basic books and cassettes because I like to see how they were advertised back in the day. I also keep an eye out for books and other magazines that may include type-ins to add to my list to research.
October 25, 2024 at 1:50 AM
One of the other things I'm keeping an eye out for is levels created for Lode Runner, Excitebike, and other games with in-game level creation tools. These can be created on the Famicom/NES and saved using the Family Basic keyboard's audio out.

Tonight I decided to take a break from creating Type-In webpages and celebrate archive.org being partially back by digging through old Japanese magazines looking for more type-ins. Today's gem is Mario RPG from back in 1986 :) It appears to be Family Basic but listed in a way I'm not used to.
October 25, 2024 at 1:38 AM
Tonight I'm creating websites for the Type-Ins that were submitted to @gamingalexandria.bsky.social's Typing Task Force (TTF). People type up games from code sent in to Japanese magazines in the 80s/90s, and Gaming Alexandria hosts these games for others to download and enjoy.
