BREAKING: Court rules for release of journalist Elif Akgül

Akgül was arrested on 18 February as part of an operation targeting pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Congress (HDK) and was in pre-trial detention since 21 February.

Journalists Elif Akgül, Yıldız Tar and Ercüment Akdeniz have been imprisoned pending trial on charges of “membership in an armed terrorist organization.” Ender İmrek has been released to house arrest.

The 4 journalists are among more than 50 people arrested on 18 February.

Journalists Yıldız Tar, Elif Akgül and Ercüment Akdeniz were arrested early this morning in an operation ordered by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Arrest warrants were issued against 60 people in Istanbul and 9 other provinces, 52 of whom were taken into custody in morning raids.
