As Remembrance Day nears, we reflect on sacrifices made in times of war. Our most moving project took place at Fromelles, France, where we helped uncover and identify Australian soldiers who fell during the Battle of Fromelles in July 1916.

This rare bronze axehead—known as a ‘flat axe’—dates back to around 2000–1900 BC. It was discovered in the hollow left by a fallen tree, near a modern stream. Was it dropped by accident? Or carefully placed there as an offering?
