Observer of life's little moments and shout about it. She/Her. UK/US/Canada.
Art, photography, pets, politics, science, nature, music, textiles, technology, and can see the stars.
Mining/mineral extraction requires investment in geo surveys, equipment, infrastructure, eg. Glencore) the US can't just take it and no private company would have an appetite for that level of risk. I also don't believe the US would do a meat grinder strategy without a huge backlash from the public.

Agreed, that's why the Canadian Arctic Foreign Policy and the ANPF were launched last year. We all know why the US and Russia want access. Like the 51st state garbage, it won't happen just because the US says so. Canada is preparing in advance of hostile negotiations and actions.

They will not get access to the Canadian Arctic. Not after what the US is pulling with tariffs and Ukraine. It would be career suicide for any Canadian politician to agree to Arctic access for the US or Russia right now.

Jasmine, I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your posts. I see your passion for space and physics, and I hope you don't let annoying idiots get to you. You love what you do and that's your secret weapon. Please keep educating and fascinating us by sharing.

I like the very clever chicken clearing up and getting treats without having to go into the fray.

Ask the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History in Hartford. They had an exhibit a few years ago about the revolutionary war in CT and have actual uniforms.

Thank you. Just the pop and gentle sizzle I needed on this drab grey day.

Where I'm going with this is any changes to current established norms should be immediately taken to court. A valid demand that the court decide. And this be done for every regulation, rule, etc. Create a huge backlog that lasts 4 years. Then get regulations back-dated into law via congress. Doable?

Serious hypothetical question: lets say regulation (not law) is 100 ppm of some chemical in water. If DOGE says they want to change the regulation, or allow an entity to knowingly exceed that ppm regulation, can it be taken to court to decide what the regulation should be (post Chevron?)
December 30, 2024 at 3:53 AM
Sigh. Chevron was repealed by the Supreme Court. I think we could use this to our advantage. The second they change a regulation, we take it to court saying it's up to the courts to decide. (Hey, the court was the one who F'ed with Chevron, let 'em find out...) DOGE gets nothing done. Win all around

That is really lovely! How fantastic that your book moved this person to enjoy it so much as to tell you, and what a wonderful gift to read a note of appreciation. All comes full circle.

Only Trump can turn sending a notice of remembrance into a brag ('exclusive club') and try to make it about himself. I can tell you the Carter legacy will whip back and sting Trump like holly water splashing on Nosferatu.

A 'Do as I say, not as I do' post. Hey, maybe in his drug induced haze he thinks telling people to 'fuck themselves in the face' is articulate and informative. I don't care how much money he has, this guy is a looser as a human.

"The two countries maintained a sense of humour in the dispute. Peter Taksøe-Jensen has stated "when Danish military go there, they leave a bottle of schnapps. And when Canadian military forces come there, they leave a bottle of Canadian Club and a sign saying, 'Welcome to Canada.'"

Or looking at it from another point of view, what a shame it would be for America if Canada turns it off. Maybe just for a week or so to start... Remember Texas last summer?
