This is normal to us. Of course people die of starvation and homelessness and medical illnesses they couldn't afford treatment for. To us, that's everyday.

When it happened in the USSR, it was condemned as a total failing of the USSR.

So why not condemn it as a total failure of the current system?

Brown and black people, trans people, women, and numerous other groups are routinely oppressed in the USA.

Hundreds of thousands of people die in the USA every single year from poverty-related causes—starvation, exposure, avoidable medical isues, etc.

History is there so we can see what patterns were underway in the past, such as what a government committing genocide would tell its people about that genocide, and look out for parallels where that might be repeating. Of course your govt is not going to say it's doing a genocide, that's bad press.
