There was no way to predict what happened to Ortiz sadly, so I wouldn't really call it a blunder, just bad luck. With Ortiz, this trade is an easy win.

I'm curious what the innings projections look for Cantillo because I am way higher on him on a rate basis than anyone other than maybe Bibee and Williams. His FIP was a run better than any starter other than Messick last year.

I just don't see how Donavan is the guy we need to target. He blocks 2B, and is another high contact low power guy. If they are going to swing for a trade, I'd rather target Nootbar, or Abreu or take a risk on a salary dump bounce back like Hernandez, Castellanos, Soler, or O'neil

His launch angle and massive whiff issues just cripple him. Fix either one of those and you can find somewhat successful comps around the league. I don't think our hitting development can do that at this point.

Throws 95, deep mix, 31% CSW% in AAA, ,377 xFIP last year. Curious what the catch is bc he seems too good to fall to the 21st pick of the rule 5

The ballot and committee was blatantly crafted to get Murphy and Mattingly in, even though the numbers clearly show they are not HOF worthy.

I doubt the MLB hitting coach can do much to meaningfully change the guys they get.

Drafting and trades have been rough. They really haven't been able to develop bats in Columbus either. Scouting philosophy/personnel probably needs an overhaul.

The question is if a Noel with a platoon advantage is better than another player without the advantage. He still has the same whiff and chase issues against LHP, he is just slightly more effective. At least a Kayfus or Schneeman could lay off some pitches to drive up the count and might make contact

When can we expect Swing+ and Stance+?

Is it looking like Aleman will make an impact this year? Who do you see Sabrowski, Stephan, and Sewald replacing in the pen?

I'm curious why the guardians have seen a shift towards whiffs-at-any-cost pitching. Clase, Cecconi, Ortiz, Gaddis, and Williams, have all seen their Whiff% skyrocket, while previous strengths like limiting hard contact or walks have diminished. Ironically, the opposite has happened to Bibee.

Sabrowski and Walters being injured has been a disappointment.

His command seems uncharacteristically poor based on the eye test. But his BABIP is like .200 above his career norm too.
April 21, 2025 at 5:10 PM
Believe it or not, this is Gimenez's best Savant stats of his career. I highly doubt it is real though because he is running a ridiculously terrible 56% Zone Swing% right now.
April 13, 2025 at 4:35 PM
Probably not, he is terrible at squaring up the ball and gets a lot of weak contact. His AVG EV and HH% were below average in 2024 and he has not looked much better this spring to be honest. His max velo is there though.
March 17, 2025 at 5:13 PM
I'm glad to see that Clase's stuff is still grading out well despite him seeming to be limiting his velocity (he has been sitting around 97-98 in Spring training appearances mostly).

The current wave of support for Pettitte is pretty interesting. What has changed? Is Sabathia's presence giving him a second look.

Vizquel gaining any votes is pretty bleak though.

The starting rotation will definitely include Bibee, Williams, Ortiz. That leaves Lively, Allen, McKenzie, Cantillo, Cecconi to all fight over the last 2 spots. Is there still room to add more pitching, or is the rotation getting crowded? Do you see any of these starters being traded or let go?

Any chance yall could revert the formatting in the advanced stats table? The divisions between the Batting/Batting ratios/ Batted ball/etc columns used to be bold so it was easy to instantly find the desired column group at a glance. Now the table is really tough to look at quickly. Thanks!

The issue with this specific argument for Felix is that he doesn't really have that many WAA. In the last 30 years, guys such as Roy Oswalt, Tim Hudson, and Mark Buehrle have more, and none of them have gotten close to the Hall. They also have more peak WAA and higher WAA/162.
December 27, 2024 at 10:54 PM
Where are they going to put a Santana or Diaz? Manzardo should be playing every day at 1B and Fry will only DH when he returns. Also, Jose will still be DHing once a week and it is likely that they will want to use DH to get more looks at Brito/Noel/Rodriguez/Martinez.
December 21, 2024 at 11:25 PM
Look at Cecconi's stuff+ and location+ numbers. I like that for 1 year of control of a 118 OPS 1B.
