Tech recruiter, politics nerd and #SAFC supporter.
Thing is, as much as the primary residence rule he’s quoting is inaccurate, how much does it actually get enforced/challenged by HMRC? It seems like a hard one to prove

I work in the tech industry as a recruitment manager. At my last place their grad intake reduced from 20 heads in 2024 to 5 in 2025.

We have a generation of kids pushed down the stem route that are coming out of school/uni with no career path in front of them.

Found it

I came onto here last year but went back on Twitter for transfer stuff. Habits set in and was on it loads again, and I can tell how much it was affecting me. It’s genuinely poison.

I really hope this does stick around!

That’s one of the scruffiest things I’ve seen in a long time
April 18, 2025 at 5:33 PM
It doesn’t make anyone any money. What a sad state of affairs

Really thought the headline was going to finish with ‘step down as mayor’. Shame

As someone involved in hiring grads, the system for it is broken. I appreciate they’re subsidising UK students but I can tell you from personal experience we’re not getting the ‘top talent’ they envisaged when the scheme expanded. We’re getting people who are being sold a lie

I’d be minded to agree with that. I think people are hoping/expecting the US pulls back from their Liz Truss moment but they will have another. Got a long 3 1/2 years left
April 7, 2025 at 10:59 AM
Agree. It’s a small window of opportunity but they have to use the ‘freedom’ that the Brexit disaster has offered. English still the language of business, we have brilliant services economy and London still hasn’t been overtaken by Paris or Frankfurt in FS. Think we’re too risk averse however.

Quite hilarious when you remember how absurdly big their squad is
April 6, 2025 at 4:04 PM
I’ll never not laugh at the way Fergus bowls in the room at the end there. So simple and chaotic

I don’t think it’s adversarial to ask difficult questions about the people who own the club. That’s the job of a journalist. Thing is, people like George will agree with that but he’s too compromised now to do it.

It’s not an anti Newcastle conspiracy. www.nufcfansagainstsportswashing.org.uk

Sorry, *local* press.

When kashoggi was murdered MBS and the Saudi state were pariahs on international stage. MBS personally pressured Boris Johnson to get premier league to push through the sale. Complying meant more Saudi investment and trade with UK. Come on, take the blinkers off here. It’s all about public opinion
March 23, 2025 at 3:54 PM
FIFA awarding the 2034 World Cup to Saudi I take it is not on your radar? It’s targeted at diverting attention from their wrongdoing and clearly it works. Newcastle aren’t the first club to be used for this but they’re the biggest example. Qatar buying PSG and getting the 2022 World Cup another one.
March 23, 2025 at 3:45 PM
You’re kidding, right?

The process of states with poor human rights records pouring money into sports teams and events in order to improve their reputation and image with countries who previously sanctioned or criticised them for the human rights abuses? It has its own Wikipedia page ffs 😂
March 23, 2025 at 3:26 PM
What do you mean they’re ’here now’? Did they not exist over 100 years ago or just since late 2021?

My wife is a season ticket holder at Newcastle and I was happy for her when they won the cup last week. Like I say, I’m just a bit disappointed all the journos rolled over for the Saudis, even George
March 23, 2025 at 2:48 PM
That’s a shame, I used to enjoy your writing on Sunderland as you were able to articulate the fan perspective well alongside an inside view of the club. It’s a shame you got too close to Amanda, I hoped you would be the lone voice against sports washing, but it never happened. There’s still time.
March 22, 2025 at 7:48 PM
Quick one, has George ever reported on the Sunderland women’s team, who’ve had a good deal of success over the years and produced great talent? Since the Saudi takeover he seems to have forgotten about the other teams on his patch 🤷‍♂️

Always had a soft spot for Palace after following HLTCO. Hopefully their habit of finishing a season well continues into beginning of next, I’m a romantic for a proper old fashioned ground and ‘local’ club
