It feels odd to stuff sci-fi under the umbrella of purely speculative fiction.

Like sci-fi is fantasy that attempts to explain itself. I feel like a strong minority of sci-fi exist in the same space as interstellar or the martian, where they truly explain the mechanisms through which the science works (however handwavy).
