I'm relieved to see Christianity Today spotlighting the obligation of the church to stand against signs of Nazism. MAGA is an aggressively anti-Christ movement. Here's a clip from CT's newsletter + a link to their coverage of the film NUREMBERG: www.christianitytoday.com/2025/11/nure...

The "Why" of #1 should speak for itself — it's Ozu. It's just about perfect. But all of these have been memorable. I suspect I'll go back to HEDWIG and THE NOVELIST'S FILM repeatedly — can't stop thinking about them.

I will never have another costume as perfect for me as the one provided by these students who asked me to be in their graduation photos a few years ago:

I have seen the future of The Criterion Collection — and it is sticky.

Hard to believe such things need to be said. The America I was taught to take pride in and feel patriotic about has been overthrown by its enemies.

I raise my glass to Dr. Joel Mayward (@jmayward.bsky.social). I am holding a copy of his new book—which, I believe, even he hasn't seen yet! It's a doozy, readers. And you'll probably recognize right away who he was lucky enough to get for the cover art. (Hint: She's at @briannaduggan.bsky.social.)

What was that Jesus warned us would happen? "Many will come in my name . . . and deceive many."

This also is true: The new Robert Plant album is a stew of goodness to strengthen the soul. Listened to it twice through at high volume in the last 48 hours. The man is working that Gospel Plough.

Stayed five days in a busy Portland neighborhood a couple of weeks ago. For fun. Met wonderful people. Got up early to walk miles thorugh the neighborhoods, loving the creativity I saw everywhere. Enjoyed strong coffee, inspiring bookstores. Oh, if only the rest of America were more like Portland.

For all of Redford's great performances, this remains my favorite of the gifts he gave us.

My favorite part is where he tells me what he was "impressed by."

It's been quite the week at the movies for me. 3 out of 4 were fantastic.

I can hardly wait for next Tuesday night, when I'll bask in the glory of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK on that massive, glorious, panoramic screen at SIFF Downtown (previously known as Cinerama).
