60+ Learning to be old 🤯
@over60m.bsky.social
I'm not here for politics but for movies, art & humor. If those are the focus of your acct I'll probably follow. I'll likely also post about the mindf*ck of getting older.
Two more Art Davis directed shorts that are all time faves are "Dough Ray Me-ow" and "Odor of the Day" (both 1948). ❤️❤️

A friend and I constantly repeat a line from "Dough Ray Me-ow" ("Breathe, stupid, breathe! You forgot to breathe again!" - when we do something stupid).

I found these thru Google. Two are pretty bad quality.

I'm sure it's in his autobio. I could look for it and take a pic from the book.

And now they aired "Duck Dogers in the 24-1/2 Century." Articles online mention that George Lucas wanted to show this before Star Wars in 1977. Right, didn't happen bc of rights issues or whatever. BUT it *DID* show with Star Wars on its "2nd run" release. I saw it! (Or maybe w a later SW film?)

I just got out of bed and put on my discs of The Carpenters. Perfect cloudy cool and quiet morning mood:

And it had changed for the worse up to 1999, too.

I haven't been in literally decades but I always found Los Angeles kinda fun and interesting. So much to do.

I'd only visit NY now (❤️). I was born in SF but have refused even to set foot in the place again since 2014 (I now live a bit afield). My 20s-30s were loads of fun in the '80s-'90s until I got mugged in '94 and fed up and moved out in '97. Then on a visit in 2014 I was again assaulted on the street.

It was lessons about the Ohlone in elementary school in Pacifica (on whose land our homes were built) that gave me a lifelong interest and concern for all native Americans. As whitewashed as those lessons were, cool of school even to address it in the 1960s.

My 1980s uni biology professor knew L. Ron Hubbard decades before and told us that one night at dinner he told her and her husband, "There are a lot of stupid people out there and one day I'm going to make millions off of them." This was about the time of his "Dianetics," followed by Scientology.

I have the entire series on a DVD set. Bought for pennies at a thrift shop! (Was still in its original packaging, had never been opened!)

Liz, hm. 🤔. But I'm there for anything with Billie Whitelaw. 😃

I'm so old I was a kid when they originally made their albums. They were huge back then, but it wasn't "cool" to like The Carpenters. Too nerdy. You "had to" like the popular rock bands. So I was always a closeted fan of The Carpenters. And when CDs emerged, a Best Of 2-disc set was a first purchase

He should only now be thinking about death approaching (at now 85) instead of having died at age 32. 😔

Saw it in '87 when first released when also read the book in a gay literature class at San Francisco State University. Don't remember any of it.
