this is on me for opening the lunar book when that was obviously going to be the absolute rock bottom worst of the lot

The game is almost as old as I am but it still makes me. Mad. Especially when it has some glancing self awareness when it's fumbling its shit and could do better and then just tosses in sidebars with titles that are some variant of "Why I'm Doubling Down." It didn't have to be like this!!! Ahhhhhhh

But when it takes the turn of so much SFF of then turning around and going "well, eugenics is pretty effective in some ways, as you can see" or "SA is a sad reality of barbarians in history" it just blows its own dick off all that potential to do something interesting with what it's pulling in.

And a lot of Exalted 1e's content in that zone does push in an interesting direction that does a lot to intersect its fantasy world with potent (often ugly) realities, which at its best is cool. The idea of the rot at the heart of this society is very cool, I think the eugenics supports it.

Putting the most offensive and thoughtless shit aside I am a little amazed that this thing never comes up in jokes about raunchy TTRPGs, because it has some shit that could deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the BoEF and it comes up a Lot. Sometimes with less of the BoEF's dubious care.
