I would have assumed it would be impossible to write a fun book about slavery or add more to a beloved Mark Twain story.

But Everett’s book is a gem. Soooo good

Just re-read @nnedi.bsky.social’s Who Fears Death. It was heavy reading and a tough story. Real human characters in a supernatural world makes you wanna cry, laugh, hurt, and really really upset because it’s all too real around us, today.

This should be mandatory reading for all humans

The #TabloidPrez lives on attention. Everyday he does something outrageous to get the headlines.

All media and commentators only writes about his most recent madness. No one mentions anything done by Democrats.

What do they need to do to become visible to us?

We have to start thinking at some point.

Stop blaming your representatives for not being superheroes. Not everyone is Obama or AOC. Put them on the seat and then guide them to do what you want. Elect people who will hear your voice. For fuck's sake: #VOTE

Do we need a reminder about the Democrats who thought Harris was not hard enough on the Israel for their genocide in West Bank and decided to hold their votes?

Nine years ago some democrats did not care about Hillary Clinton's emails, but were appalled because some claimed she was too buddy-buddy with Wall Street and the banks. They helped elect Trump by not voting.

21 years ago John Kerry was swiftboated and enough democrats were swayed and lost the election.

40+ years ago, green democrats bought the argument of fossil fuel industry that nuclear energy is the biggest evil. No new nuclear power plant construction start since 1980's resulted in helping global warming.

During the last half a century, democrats have consistently been "Single Issue Nonvoters" who swallow anything thrown at them. It's so bad that Republicans and MAGA don't even try hard.

Wang densely wraps so many uncomfortable topics into a dark story: patriarchy, racism, class warfare, religious fanaticism…

Unlike many fantasy novels, this is a fresh breath of cerebral adventure. Reading the arc of each imperfect character was so satisfying, I couldn’t stop

Aerth by @tomkinsdeb.bsky.social is full of beauty, a story told via snippets making it feel like turning pages an intimate photo album

With hints of The Dispossessed and Man Who Fell to Earth, it is a story of love of nature and a story of love and I know I’ll read it again soon

Every sentence of this book is beautiful. Just enjoying them was so satisfying.

In contrast, the ideas and characters felt shallow, with all that glittering prose staying skin deep (kind of like a trophy spouse).

Ben Zipperer has a cool site showing the federal workers by state. I’m wondering how many of the 361k federal employees in Texas will be bitten by the rabid doge

Should we laugh at the absurdity or cry because we are living in a Brecht world now?

To see the real #Houston walk the streets: 5-6 lanes for the cars, boxing parking lots and occasional high rises, full of noxious fumes. Share the sidewalks with the homeless forgotten by its affluent residents & the US.

It is a city made in oil crazed second half of 20th century, just for cars

I just started reading this and am enjoying it sooo much that I have to put it down after every chapter, take a breath, then continue…

I had purchased it during a travel last year. Having read her previous novels, I put reading this one off - because I’m no fanboy. Guess I am, actually…

My first negative post about a book is very well deserved

This is a generic story that could be historical fiction, fantasy, or anything. It lacks any science or futuristic aspect of sci-fi, but is full of lazy intrigues, side stories, filler characters, & more.

Argh!
