2) Richer display of search results
Our charts let you view data in many ways: as line & bar charts, maps, tables, & more.
Now, these different views—and key data points—are part of the results, helping you find what you want more easily
The views also respond to searches for particular countries

It’s hard to hear about everyone. But that’s the challenge we have to take on if we don’t want to be left with a scattered & biased perspective of the world.
If we want to see what on earth is going on, we have to tell *all* the stories. This is possible.
Telling many stories at once is statistics

To reach beyond our personal experience, we have to rely on some form of media: TV, books, podcasts...
But more than any other, the news is the media that shapes our picture of the world.
It’s valuable as it lets us see beyond our own tight horizon—but the view it offers is spotted and fragmented.

Perhaps you think: I also learn from strangers I meet, even if I don’t know their names.
So let’s assume you have a conversation with 3 new people every single day of your life.
If you can keep this up for 73 years, you will get to know 80,000 people.
This is still a tiny fraction of the world.

The limits of our personal experience and the value of statistics 🧵
How many people do you know by name?
One study found that the average American knows 611.
In a world of 8 billion, that’s less than 0.00001%. A 100,000th of a percent.
We can’t see much of the world through our direct experience

A decade ago, the most frequent opinion among smokers was that vaping was less harmful than tobacco. But ten years on, the opposite is true: over a third say that vapes are just as or even more dangerous. You can see this shift in the chart.
The scientific evidence is clear that this is incorrect.
