Comic: Mr Smiggs, a tabby cat, balances on a window ledge. He says "The big adventure of our time is the Great Turning, away from the jaws of industrial growth and into the arms of sustainability." Panel 2: The cat says "Step one: stop letting bad things get worse." He knocks a pink ball of yarn to the floor and thinks "whoops." Panel 3: The cat plays with yarn on the floor in the sun and says "Two: Figure out the structural problems and come up with better systems. May those systems real however you can, from art to practice." Panel 4: The cat purrs next to a bookcase with books by Joanna Macy and others, including her "Active Hope." Mr. Smiggs says "Three: shift your consciousness for this new way of being. Remember rest and recovery are part of the Great Turning. So sayeth Joanna Macy."

Comic set in Alma's backyard under an oak. Her friend Willow says "Alma, we can border the oak with Neville's rescued branches. As the leaves fall, we'll leave about six inches here as mulch. Caterpillars will shelter here, then turn into butterflies and birds. Panel 2: Willow continues "Less raking for you. No piles of slippery leaves in the street. Less work for the yard-waste crews." We see the Solid Waste manager in front of mountains of leaves. He says "We might finally have room to compost food scraps!" Panel 3: closeup of log. Willow says "Fungi start the party. Insects move in, such as roly-polies, fireflies, and emerald sweat bees." We see all those on the log, with the roly-polies singing "Rollin', rollin', rollin' down the old log." Panel 4: The closeup of the log continues, but it looks older. Willow says "Lizards and toads will live in the branches as they soften." A skink lizard says to a toad "Hey, that mosquito was mine!" The toad says "You snooze, you lose Skinky!"

Colorful, sunny comic. Panel 1. Alma is on the porch of her bungalow welcoming two people. She says: "Thanks for coming to our go-native planting party!" and "Neville! What are you dragging?" Panel 2: close-up of a branch being held by a man. A snail crawls up it. Neville says "A fallen branch, festooned with lichen!" and "One of your neighbors had it on the curb for the yard-waste crew, but I rescued it!" Panel 3: Alma says "Of course they had it on the curb! Why would anyone want a rotting log?!?" Neville replies "But my dear, rot is the point!" A grasshopper is on the log. Panel 4: Willow says "Neville's right. Let's use branches to border the paths. Were there any more?" Neville says "Yes. I picked the most lovely one for you, Alma. But there are two or three more." Alma says in a small voice "ooooh-kaaaaay." A red centipede is on the log.

Comic: Panel 1: Four people and a cat are on the porch of Alma's cheerful yellow bungalow. A black dog walks by and solar panels are on the roof. She says "OK, let's check out the bridge brigade next month. What else? Willow?" Panel 2: Willow says "I brought flowers today to remind us that fall is the perfect time to plant in this region." Panel 3: Zahir says "So what? This meeting is about ACTION!" Fran says "ZAHIR!" Willow says "Gardening IS action! We can support wildlife, reduce pollution, and use less resources." Panel 4: Willow asks "Alma, what about making this scruffy front yard into a pollinator garden?" Alma says "Scruffy! Ha! Will it be a lot of work?" Willow replies "Less than keeping up this 'lawn'!" Alma says "OK, let's do it!"

She hears her radio say "As the authoritarian regime gains force, we're asking you to gather a group to resist." Her cat thinks "Treats?". Panel 2: Radio says "Bring together about 10 people to begin practicing active resistance." The woman looks surprised. She says "Has it come to this?" Panel 3: the cat says "The essential adventure of our time is the Great Turning, our shift from an industrial growth society to life-sustaining civilization. The three aspects of the Great Turning are: 1) Take action to slow the damage to Earth and its beings 2) Analyze the structural problems and create structural solutions 3) Shift our consciousness. So sayeth Joanna Macy. Panel 4: The woman lifts the cat up, saying "Let's make it a party, Mr. Smiggs! Who should we invite?" Mr. Smiggs says "Wraoow!"
