"When you say you had to be tougher and more resilient in the '80s, what do you mean by that?"

"Well take the example of this eight-year-old who wrote to DC Comics..."

Cook County announced that tax bills will be mailed on Friday, November 14th and will be due on December 15th.

First installment bills next year will be due on April 1.

As a reminder, @cookcountyassessor.bsky.social doesn’t send out tax bills and completed its exemption work months ago.

Is this man:

A) Brandishing the @cookcountyassessor.bsky.social 2024 annual report to display the map of its 217 public meetings to explain assessments and exemptions?

B) Demonstrating how to build strong triceps by lifting an 80+ page govt report

C) Telling the world’s worst bedtime story

As we were using the closing hours of veto session to help seniors, others chose to spread disinformation and confusion about who’s to blame for late tax bills. Fun!

It’s not as sexy as a fleet of salt trucks but these folks are on the ground and working to keep people safe.

These are the stories to lift up, especially when they’re coming from local journalism.

Yep, that’s me. If you’re wondering how I got here, it’s because the President of the United States decided to declare war on Chicago so a bunch of people got in the streets to laugh at him.

Last night at dusk, the sky was beautiful. The color, the clouds, the expanse and grandeur. Photos are insufficient to the task of explanation.

I note this only to say there’s still beauty out there. Moments of joy are still allowed. Take them when you can as fuel for what’s to come.
