They live in a completely different reality. I am not being facetious when I say that folks with that much wealth view going from owning 42 mansions to owning 30 mansions as being poor or "destitute". We cannot connect with them on any meaningful level.

But Musk didn't even start one of them. He just injected them with money after they'd been around for 7 years and made them sign a contract naming his a co-founder. He was also pushed out PayPal exactly for being a dumbass that would have torpedoed the company.

I believe that the original author is gay and basically wrote Bateman as a stand-in for himself. I recall an interview he did later in life where he admitted that he had an irrational hatred of women probably stemming from his closeting of his homosexuality.
