People who don’t take responsibility for the harm they cause will have you believe that your response to their harm is the problem. But I promise, your humanistic, natural response to fucked up things isn't the problem.

The violation, the betrayal of trust, the disregard for consent, the gaslighting, the lack of accountability, and the enabling we’re watching unfold in our government isn’t much different than the traumatic dynamics of the family systems a lot of us grew up in. It makes sense if you’re triggered.

Connection is one of the things that reliably regulates our nervous system, and that includes connection to ourselves. Being radically honest about how you feel--even if you don't like what you feel or think you shouldn't be feeling it--relieves your system of the work to keeping it all at bay.

A lot of people have heard that in order to get out of your head you have to get into the body…but we need to understand that the reason a lot of us got stuck in our heads in the first place was to protect us from what was too overwhelming for our body to feel.

We're conditioned to rely on willpower and self-discipline to get things done, but you know when we *naturally* feel the most motivated? When our nervous system feels safe. When we stop pushing through, and start slowing down to give our body and brain the rest and nourishment it needs.
