just remembered this while going through threads referencing the picrew and alkfdjgklfjgd i was going to update it with more holidays and stopped updating altogether so i forgot theres just randomly halloween and hanukkah and nothing else 😭

little late but i would have nominated the monoecious common juniper we found recently while trying to sex a bunch of them... she/he can do it all

I used these as examples because they're stupidly obvious, but the real issue with genAI is that it is going to give unearned confidence for species that frankly, cannot be identified through photos alone. Many sedges and willows, plus huge categories like insects, mushrooms and lichen.

Alternate ending. Yes these are both photos I took and the computer vision failed to offer "Canada goose" or "mallard duck" for these two photos. I can only assume that is because these two are so common the computer vision has some sort of very narrow parameters for them or something?

(I should have used my phone but... idk getting videos off my phone can be annoying, idk how anyone deals with that)

i would be much happier if the video footage was better quality, its kinda bad NGL I dont know how to make my DSLR shoot good, but its the first time im trying a "video essay" style of project and i actually think its an important message so... I'll work with what i have.

i will need to remove some bits here and there that are repetitive, which i noticed while filming it, but that will probably be balanced out by me going off script to rant...

You tagged one of my bees with observation data, I wasn't bothered by it but I was wondering if I should do so for my other bug IDs in that format? Is it worth it if they can't be ID'd down to the species?
