198 Gladstone, #Centretown #Ottawa
aerial photos and newspaper mentions suggest a build date c. 1929, an example of a jerkinhead-gambrel roof —
H.P. Lovecraft, autodidact antiquarian and architecture fan loved gambrel roofs wherever he found them
the Amityville Horror house had a gambrel roof

i've seen chihuahuas do this, but not pugs.
some obscure wolf behaviour that small breeds have clung to or somehow resurrected? 🤔
when i was a kid ('50s,'60s) people made a big deal about circus dogs (often poodles) who would walk on two legs, either their front or their hind

250 Frank, the Victoria and 252, the Aitken (originally the LaSalle) newspaper ads from the early '30s, both buildings occupied (8 units each) per the 1932 Directory, i'm guessing a 1931 build date #Centretown #Ottawa

244 Frank #Centretown,
originally 28 Lochiel, built c. 1892 and listed as the home of Mrs Anna Morgan, a widow, one dares to suppose

170 Cartier, built in the early 19-aughts, was home to James T Moxley during the construction of his somewhat more imposing home next door at #172, completed in 1913

golden. one of the best "portraits"of MH Park i've ever seen
and a perhaps unique location in the heart of #Ottawa for those as would lounge, sprawl, whatever
how they arrange themselves ...

re James T Moxley, mentioned in our previous post —
his obit indicates that he worked for the City of Ottawa "until 1934"
this theatre-opening announcement dates to December of that year ...

172 Cartier, #GoldenTriangle #Ottawa
completed 1913, first ad for help in Sept of that year
built for James T Moxley, deputy registrar, City Registry Office,
who lived next door at #170 during construction
in the 1930s, Moxley quit the Registry and embarked on a second career as a theatre manager 😉

43 Park, #GoldenTriangle #Ottawa
built some time between 1901 and 1906, i favour the latter date
it had at several owners in its first few years
first ad for a servant, Dec '06
the rather sad obit is from Jan 21 1907, the house was up for sale in May of that year, described as "nearly new"

the Bate Building is in red, sitting at the edge of the Canal turning basin (SW limb) in blue
the old train station and platforms in yellow,
the original post-office (pre War Memorial) in green
bldgs in Confed Park (apart from the Roxborough) demolished no later than 1965

the Bate Bldg, photog unknown, take 1940
E end of Slater, N side, named for the Bate bros, TC and
Sir HN, served as govt offices when Slater ran as far east as the Canal (this was exactly 100 metres SW thereof)
part of the demolition to make way for Cornfed Park, whenever that was, shame 😑
