Ein Junge hat ein Loch in der Kehle und die Stimme verloren – und um die Aufmerksamkeit seines gebrochenen Vaters zu wecken, greift er zu immer abgründigeren Methoden. Eine im Sterben liegende Frau ruft eine Freundin an, mit der sie seit dreißig Jahren nicht gesprochen hat, seit dem tragischen Unfall damals – wer von den beiden trug daran eigentlich die Schuld? Doch dann lüftet der garstige Gottlieb Hopps Geheimnis und das Blatt wendet sich. Denn jede Geschichte hat ihr Gesetz. Und niemandem gehört das Glück. Mehrdad Zaeri antwortet mit seinen Bildern auf Roger Willemsen, als hätten die zwei sich unterhalten und auf den Grund ihrer Seelen geschaut.

Stattdessen inszeniert sie ihr Leben als Soap einer knallharten, linksideologischen Ermittlerin in den sozialen Netzwerken, bis unvorhergesehene Ereignisse ihre gemütlich eingerichtete Existenz erschüttern und ein Shitstorm ihr virtuelles Dasein vernichtet. Doch schon tags darauf soll sie ihren ersten, wenngleich unlösbar scheinenden Auftrag übernehmen: Oskar Lafontaine sucht ihr Büro auf. Seine Frau sei entführt worden, von Außerirdischen, er wolle sie zurück, Geld spiele keine Rolle. Die Suche nach der entführten Sahra Wagenknecht entpuppt sich bald als Reise in ein verdrängtes Bewusstsein, zu Teilen einer Identität, die Emma Erdling zu Beginn der Geschichte so fern war wie eine Galaxie jenseits der Milchstraße. Zugleich nimmt uns der Roman mit auf eine Odyssee zu den hellen und dunklen Mächten deutscher Geschichte, bis hinaus ins Weltall, alle Grenzen von Zeit und Raum mühelos überschreitend.
