If the party wins, they have NO motivation to listen to anyone who voted for them. It doesn't matter how the voters intend it, it matters how the party chooses to perceive it. Your politicians do not serve you, they serve themselves.

Voting for a party is seen by the party as endorsement for their positions. If you vote for them "but have issues", they have no motivation to listen to your issues or correct them, because they already have your vote. The hope is by not getting the votes, they recognise they need to correct course.

Because voting for someone to win will likely be seen as endorsement for their position. "I'll throw trans people and Palestinians under the bus!" > Win > "People don't care about helping trans people or Palestinians! We know this because they voted for us!"
