Cold house for sleeping,
but Brrr getting out of bed!
Old Dog up hunting a good scratch,
warm is he!
Cup of Joe for me,
breakfast, drink for Askum.
Out into a bitey wind, but sunny morn.
abbreviated walk again.
Home for Nap!
November 14, 2025 at 7:52 PM
Bundling up for morning walk!
Old, well used coat, baggy pants, hood up, gloves
Have the look of an old homeless man
Askum oblivious to the weather, cold especially.
Big winter storm out Midwest way.
Brewing up winds, temps drop, and ...
Snow!! ??
Not my idea of a good time!

John's Splinters: After the mixed up day, Dark broody clouds slid in from West, figured no Aurora , but slight breaks, bright glow found its way. Usual suspects at the feeder. Up in dark after rain, clouds rush off, clear! Vacuuming! 31ºF headed to 41. Ya'll be careful out there!

To have his incredible love for life,
and Askum's gift of joy,
rare qualities of any creature,
he displays it under just awful circumstances.
Each day his Tail Grin rolls on.
Cone, arthritis, leg surgery, fewer long walks.
He endures! and makes me better!
Doesn't know a bad day

Days seem to charge past,
much like freight train,
whoosh, then gone from sight,
But the incredible changes day to day,
an magic of Maine's landscape,
continues to enthrall me.
Montana, New Mexico, to here!
What an incredible experience.
USA is a beautiful land,
less we forget.

John's Splinters: Mixed bag yesterday, clouds rolled in, day melted into night. Night skies bloomed with Aurora Borealis, reds, greens, dotted in stars, splendid after 2 nights of overcast. Drab morn' walk, bright blue crisp day. 32ºF headed to 43. Ya'll be careful out there.

My old crippled up Askum,
thrilled with the snow.
Snuffling deer tracks under Chestnut Tree.
Breaking mud puddle ice,
Trotting a bit, just cause, why not.
With the house heating,
Creating another dog with shedding.
Daily chore, rounding hair up.
Think he would be bald by now!

Not really sure I am ready for Winter, snow, and all.
But over the last 20 odd years or so, bout normal.
Know where the snow shovels are,
4 wheel drive on the Blue rig.
Winter coats, gloves in the clothes closet.
Fuel in tank, bottles,
figured out thermostats.
Ready as it gets.
November 12, 2025 at 7:36 PM
John's Splinters: No Aurora last night, the snows came, coating every thing in a light blanket of white. Morning sunrise layers of color. Extra cup of Joe, Brrr. Quiet walk, clouds rolling in again. blackbirds gone, rest at feeder. 30ºF headed to 44. Ya'll be careful out there!
November 12, 2025 at 7:33 PM
Before the skies cleared we slept in,
15 more min, in warm beds.
Up splashed warm water on face,
Hugged an Old Friend,
Checked bandage,
Out the front, down the lane!
Way do dogs love drinking from puddles?
Seemed to enjoy walk more today!
Back home now, napping!
I, on 2nd cup!
November 11, 2025 at 7:09 PM
One more trip to the Health Center,
Blood draw, Think I am 3 quarts low!
The ocean was in uproar!
Low tide and ocean blending into the sky!
Askum awkward, but made it in an out of the Rig.
My word, but the sun streaming through morn' skies,
So welcome, spirit lifting!
A new Day!
November 11, 2025 at 7:02 PM
John's Splinters: Mixed up weather last days! One day dreary, overcast, next filled with mist, pretending to be fog, hanging close. Morn' arrived, overcast, then clouds dissipated into clear blue. Feeder fights on going, Jays win! 37ºF headed to 41. Ya'll be careful out there!
November 11, 2025 at 6:59 PM
Strange how one can become accustomed,
to not talking to a living soul for days on end?
But in time my Askum will heal.
Then we can get out and about some.
Not having human contact can wear.
Almost like we are snowed in again!
And the predicted snow is now falling on new home!
November 9, 2025 at 9:22 PM
Old Dog seems antsy today.
Not hurting but just as if he knows,
something is on its way. Oh well!
A good easy short walk under heavy skies.
Ducks on the pond caught his eye.
drink from a puddle, bit of grazing,
Then we wandered back to the house.
Has a feel of Winter time.
November 9, 2025 at 9:20 PM
John's Splinters: Layers upon layers of clouds this morning. Clear night after one more cloudy day. Bright stars an moon reflecting off the pond. Walks in the dark. Days spent curled up with good book/Great dog, world keeps turning. 34ºF headed to 46. Ya'll be careful out there!
November 9, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Askum slept in once again.
Seems we grow much alike.
But after a good long scratch, hug.
He was ready for breakfast,
And out the door for our morning walk.
Wet, providing puddles for a slurp.
not to mention that fresh smell after the rain.
Down the lane and back again.
Nap!
November 8, 2025 at 4:58 PM
As I tend to Askum, finding I have entered loop in time!
Days interchange, Saturday could just as well be Thursday.
Breaks in cloudy days do provide, change. But they are so ephemeral fading into the past like mist on warm summers day. And yet, I know Spring, better times ahead!
November 8, 2025 at 4:55 PM
John’s Splinters: Dreaming pale yellows, whites, cross blue sky last night. Quickly filled with dingy gray. Night patter of rain, soaked ground, puddles! Fast moving clouds breaking, spots of blue. Still, not a breath in the wind. 43ºF headed to 57. Ya’ll be careful out there!
November 8, 2025 at 4:52 PM
My old Friend surely adjusts to new situations.
Allows the on off of cone to eat an drink.
Plus has down pat already, our day's routine.
Something in the woods got his attention.
I saw it not! His senses remain incredible.
Quick guzzle in puddle, and back to the house!
Nap!
November 7, 2025 at 7:40 PM
The totally discombobulating feeling that comes,
with the inability to hop in rig an go,
really says a lot about me.
With Askum's injury, we are either on foot,
or sitting on my tuchus.
Find I wander the house looking for something to do.
did pass on cleaning kitchen floor!
November 7, 2025 at 7:38 PM
John's Spinters: After dreary, wind blasted day, clear skies, sharp sunlight an gentle breeze was more than welcome. Big bright moon lit up night. Extra cup of Joe hit the spot. Raucous Jays, buzz of Nuthatches. Work on garage clean. 32ºF headed to 45. Ya'll be careful out there!
November 7, 2025 at 7:35 PM
Out on our walk felt I needed an anchor,
Wind trying to steal my hat as well,
making cold fingers colder.
Last leaves not even falling,
simply headed out to sea,
like fishermen on late summers day!
Saving grace was bright sun,
and the big Beaver Moon.
Even birds hunker down.
November 6, 2025 at 8:13 PM
John’ Splinters: Yesterday, windy, drab, overcast, lots of rain. Morning came up beautiful, Moon settling into the west, pale sunrise. Man, but a rattling wind. Feeders filled Nuthatches, Jays, Cardinals. Clouds hurting off east. 39ºF headed to 46. Ya’ll be careful out there.
November 6, 2025 at 8:08 PM
He was up early, flopping about.
Longer nights plus plastic cone has to wear.
But soon as I rolled up,
there for morning scratch an hug.
Drink of water, breakfast, down the road.
Cant go too far, but the nose reaches out.
Night passer byes!
Soon we head to the house,
Nap time!
November 5, 2025 at 9:03 PM
With my old friend now,
well bandaged and stapled,
Our walks are much shorter.
Cone is on for two more weeks!
Working to get him up ramp into truck!
Sometimes I get the WHY? look.
Don’t blame him at all,
He can’t understand!
but he is still his old sweet self!
